where you are on your photography journey, there are times you just need a little reminder that you are doing great! The only photographer that you should ever compare your work to, is the photographer that you were last week, last month, or last year. That is the true gauge of your progress.

All to often, we get caught up in how awful we are, because we compare our work to someone’s else. We are not taking into account how long that photographer has been practicing, the sweat, the tears, the gear, the experience or anything into account when we compare our work to theirs. We simply dismiss ourselves as good photographers, because we are not as good as someone else.

Remember, that we all start somewhere. With that said, never stop learning… and never stop trying! Look at the pictures you took today, and figure out what you can do to improve your craft next time. Look at where you were last year, to see just in fact how far you have come on your journey.

“The only photographer you should compare yourself to, is the one that you used to be”

If you want you can download these posters. I have one that is white, and one that is green (I mean that is our branding colors lol)

PLEASE…. all we ask is that you don’t claim this to be your own, and that you share this with other photographers. We can all use that boost and reminder!!!

Thank you. This is a very true statement, but sometimes we forget that we are always growing.

Today I set aside some time to read up on your blog and I am so glad I did (even though I religiously follow you on facebook). This post actually inspired me so much that it got me out of my rut and have stopped my “pity parties” I have been having on almost a daily basis, something I didn’t think I could get out of.

Photography and all that comes with it makes me feel alive and I almost forgot the passion I used to have because I started comparing myself to others that were better…….I began doing that at first but I would always said to myself that “someday I can afford the lighting equipment to do that” or “afford to buy a better lens”, ect. but after awhile those little boosts of motivation stopped and I just started to believe I could never get there. The loss of my confidence started to deteriorate from a combination of things, but the biggest one was when I was told that if I can’t get that perfect professional picture that others take with just the basic equipment I have, then no amount of different lenses, lighting, etc, would ever make a difference. That’s when I started to obsess about comparing my photos to others and stopped looking at how far I have came sine I first started.

Wow….sorry about the long post but I just wanted to thank you for posting this today. This will be my new montra because your exactly right!! Again, thanks so much….you have no idea how much I appreciated this:) Take care and keep up all the amazing work that you guys do:)
